Macro Setup

Pursuing macro photography has been a long time interest of mine, only being put of by the cost of a macro lens.  Following some online research I decided to go for a reverse ring setup with an ordinary lens. I picked up my first ever dslr, the humble Nikon D3100 and reverse mounted the 18-55mm with a cheap reverse ring adapter I bought on ebay for a few pounds.

The setup results in no autofocus and aperture control functionality. Macro photography was already a challenging field made more difficult by these limitations.  Nonetheless, I gave it a go.

I used an elastic band to manually open the aperture as wide as it will go and was forced to focus with my feet. The learning curve was steep and the first few shots were hit and miss.

But once I got comfortable with the setup, the results were stunning, considering it was just a stock lens mounted backwards.

I'm going to be posting some of my adventures into the macro world so keep an eye out.
